UV-VIS Evolution 300 Thermo Scientific spectrophotometer
A UV-VIS spectrophotometer is a device used to obtain spectra in the range of visible light and near ultraviolet (spectral range 190–1100 nm) as a result of absorption of the radiation penetrating through the sample. It enables both the qualitative and quantitative analysis of samples. The UV-VIS spectrum is generated as a result of electron transitions in compounds which contain groups with conjugated multiple bonds. A UV-VIS spectrophotometer is used mainly in the qualitative and quantitative analysis of coloured solutions of transition metal ions and complex organic compounds.

A xenon lamp is the light source in the spectrometer and silicon photodiodes acts as detectors. The spectrophotometer provides the option to select a gap ranging from 0.5 nm to 4 nm. Maximum wave length resolution at 0.5 nm. The spectrophotometer enables scanning at a rate of 3800 nm/min.
