As part of our research activities, we perform:
- analysis of the molecular structure on the basis of identification of individual function groups;
- tests of thin layers settled on different substrates;
- identification of substances with known structures;
- determination of the purity of compounds;
- testing intermolecular interactions.
Research equipment:
An FTIR spectrometer is a device which uses infrared radiation from 400 to 4000 cm-1 to obtain vibration spectra of the compounds tested. The obtained FTIR spectra make it possible to determine the molecular structure of the analysed compound on the basis of identification of individual function groups. The FTIR spectrometer is used mainly for testing organic compounds. It offers the possibility of testing solids, liquids and gas samples (transmission adapter) and direct testing of thin layers on substrates (ATR adapter).
Technical parameters of the spectrometer:
- spectral range 7800–350 cm-1
- beam splitter KBr/Ge
- DlaTGS detector with controlled temperature parameters, increased range of linearity and increased stability
- radiation source – high energy, ceramic, permanent
- optical resolution higher than 0.4 cm-1
- signal to noise ratio higher than 30000:1
- scanning rate: 40 scans/s with a resolution of 16 cm-1
- measuring chamber for determining samples in the form of KBr pellets with the following dimensions (width x depth x height): 21 x 26 x 20 cm
- automatic consideration of actual effects during measurements resulting from water and CO2 content in the air
Measurements can be performed with the use of:
- the reflection method (with the adapted for ATR measurements and specular reflectance);
- the transmission method.
